Is It Worth The Hype?

High End Makeup Products | Are They Worth The Hype?

You know when you get totally drawn in by those overly hyped up makeup products that everyone seems to be obsessed with, and you end up either joining in on the obsession, or feeling a bit like 'meh, what's all the fuss about?'. Buying into the hype can be a bit of a risk, especially when you're forking out stupid amounts of money for it. So I had a little hunt through my makeup collection to find the items that had hype written all over them, to give my own verdict on them.

Kylie Lip Kit | Koko K Liquid Lipstick
Kylie Lip Kit | Koko K

The hype is real with the Kylie Lip Kits and each time Kylie Jenner drops another restock on everyone, we all pretty much crash the internet in attempt to own one. Luckily I managed to swipe both Koko K and Candy K on the second restock a few months ago now, I even had Instagram post notifications turned on so I wouldn't miss out, now is that really lame or just dedicated? Probably both. Personally I found Candy too dark on my skintone, but Koko is the prettiest pinky brown toned nude shade and is really wearable for everyday. Having tried my fair share of liquid lipstick brands (Jeffree Star, Dose of Colors, ColourPop, Gerard Cosmetics, Anastasia Beverly Hills etc.) this doesn't quite top my favourite formula (Jeffree♥), but is definitely up there amongst the best. It dries almost instantly, feels so velvety smooth and lightweight on the lips and is as non-drying as a liquid lipstick can be. I do find it super long lasting, but the longer you wear it, it can go a little crumbly and flakes off along the inner lip line which is the only downfall. I personally feel like they are so over-hyped but I still love the product.

Is it worth the hype? Yes.

Estee Lauder | Double Wear Foundation
Estee Lauder | Double Wear Foundation

So many people class Double Wear as their Holy Grail foundation. It gives a flawless full coverage finish that most importantly lasts all day and could probably see you through an entire hurricane. It's basically cement in makeup terms. It can feel a little mask-like if you use too much, but I like to apply mine with a Beauty Blender which I feel gives it a much more seamless and skin like finish. I am obsessed with this foundation and it's the best I've ever tried on my oily skin. The only negative? The damn ghost face from flash photography.

Is it worth the hype? Yes.

Too Faced | Better Than Sex Mascara
Too Faced | Better Than Sex Mascara

When a mascara is super hyped up everyone flocks to go and buy it because who doesn't want the longest, fluttery lashes?! Even more so when said mascara is from my favourite makeup brand Too Faced and is packaged in the prettiest chrome pink tube! I had pretty high expectations, so when I first tried it out I was a little disappointed when I didn't see my lashes transform into the magnificence that I thought they would. In fact this gave my lashes so little length and was really dry and clumpy, which might be perfect for you if you like lots of volume, but I like my lashes to look much more lengthened and separated. I don't quite see what the fuss is all about, but Too Faced I still love you!

Is it worth the hype? No.

Too Faced | Chocolate Bon Bons Eyeshadow Palette
Too Faced | Chocolate Bon Bons Palette

I apologise that you've probably seen this gem of a palette on my blog a million times over already, so you're also very much aware of my thoughts on it. I adore the shade range of the Chocolate Bon Bons palette, it has so many beautiful wearable colours from brown tones to golds, pinks and mauves, and the quality is amazing. It is literally my perfect palette, and I'll try to shut up about it from now on.

Is it worth the hype? Yes.

Urban Decay | All Nighter Makeup Setting Spray
Urban Decay | All Nighter Makeup Setting Spray

Before I purchased the Urban Decay All Nighter spray, I had read so many reviews online from people that either claimed that it's the best thing in existence and that they couldn't finish their makeup without it, or the total opposite that it did absolutely nothing. Having oily skin, it was definitely something that I wanted to try and three bottles later I haven't looked back. I love this stuff and honestly feel like it locks my makeup in place, making it last much longer than it usually would and it also seems to gel all of the powder and foundation together giving a much more seamless look.

Is it worth the hype? Yes.

Was interesting to see that you didn't think that better than sex is worth the hype, I haven't tried it but probably won't know as I like the lengthened and separated look for my lashes as well so glad to save the money! 3. I have the Too Faced mascara but I haven't used it yet and I feel like I'm not going to think it's worth the hype either. I much prefer a lengthening mascara to one that gives volume.

  5. I loved reading this post because it's great to know what's over-hyped as it's the worst if you spend your money on something that really isn't that great. I keep missing out on the Kylie lip kits and I'm dying to own at least one! Also, this is such a great post idea! Love this!!xo

  7. I used to swear by Estee Lauder Double Wear but now I find it just TOO thick and started giving me spots so I changed back to MAC studio fix.

I've been dying to get my hands on the Urban Decay setting spray! I'm going to have to invest after reading this post!

  8. Loved this post honey :) Great to hear an honest opinion about overhyped products as there are so many out there at the moment! I have always wanted to try the Estee Lauder double wear foundation but have always been worried that it would look cakey! I am going to go with your recommendation and try it along with the beauty blender :) xxxxx

  9. I really wanted to love the Too Faced mascara, but the more I used it, I just found it so crumbly and it transferred so badly. It's such a shame, just look at the packaging (sob) :)

    1. I found the same, which is why I'm not sure why so many people love it, maybe because the packaging is so pretty?!! xo
