A Pale Girls Guide To: Highlight

A Pale Girls Guide To Highlight | Anastasia, Becca & MAC

Those like me, with a pale ivory skintone, can empathise how difficult it can be sometimes to find a highlight that not only gives you that intense filmstar type of glow, but a shade that actually highlights and brightens too. I so often scroll through Instagram and see so many beautiful girls glistening to the Gods in Anastasia So Hollywood, MAC Oh Darling, Becca Champagne Pop or some other gorgeous golden highlight, but I just know that they would only ever compliment my pasty face if I smothered myself in fake tan, which I don't particularly have the time or patience for (I lie, I could easily make time, I just can't be bothered). Luckily, I've found the perfect illuminators that have basically become my babies, as they mesh to my fair skintone like no other. So I thought I'd put together my own little guide to the highlights that go perfectly for those with fair skin like me and even those girls with the most porcelain skin!

When Anastasia Beverly Hills first released their Illuminators, the makeup obsessed community went totally heart eyed over them. So Hollywood seemed to be the favourite, a golden sun-kissed shade, but going against the hype, I purchased Starlight. It's a beautiful, frosty pearl shade with a slight warm undertone and it gives you the prettiest, angel-like glow. I adore this one as you can probably tell by the way the beautiful embossing has been massacred (cries).

The Becca Shimmering Skin Perfectors have the most insane pigmentation, are buttery soft and basically one of the best highlighters on the market, in my opinion. I was super excited when I heard about the release of the shade Pearl, which is pretty much as light a highlight as you can get. It's a stark icy white shade that although is lovely, is a tiny bit too pale for me, (something which I was not expecting!) so if you have extremely porcelain skin, this will be your b.f.f.. I do love mixing this one with other highlights and blushes and it's also gorgeous for a bright pop of shimmer on the inner corner of the eyes.

Moonstone is the darkest of the bunch but by no means is it a dark shade. It's a luminous pale gold shade that has a warmth to it that just looks gorgeous without looking too golden, and is one that would look b-e-a-u-t on pretty much every fair skintone. Again, it's super pigmented and is what I reach for when I want to look extra glistening and glowy!

Lastly is an oldie, but a goodie. MAC Lightscapade was the highlight that made me fall in love with highlight, and I used it non-stop for almost a year. It's gives a delicate, candlelit glow which is softer than the rest but beautiful in it's own right. It's perfect for those just starting out with highlighter, or those that don't want anything that might blind you when you open up your compact mirror...

The next step is finding a halo to match your glowing ~Angel~ skin (best of luck xoxo).

What's your favourite highlight?

  1. All of these highlighter's look incredible! Have you tried Mary Lou-Manizer by theBalm? It does look quite yellow but doesn't go onto the skin yellow if that makes sense! I have very pale skin on my face and I use MAC Soft & Gentle, Becca Champagne Pop and theBalm Mary-Lou (not all at the same time though haha!) - however, I do have a slight yellow undertone to my skin which is why I can probably get away with them :) I do absolutely love the look of Anastasia Starlight though!! Very pretty xo

    1. I actually had The Balm Mary Lou about two or three years ago when it was first hyped about, and I hated it cos it was too shimmery (wtf haha!) I wasn't really in to highlight then though, so I'm kicking myself as I would probably love it if I owned it now! xo

  6. This is definately inspo on what highlighter I'll be buying and the Becca one wins I feel as it if the gold undertoned highlighters are best for people with darker skin, therefore I shall go with that one it looks amazing x
