I've never whitened my teeth before and to be honest they were more on the dull yellow side than sparkly white, so when I was kindly offered to try out a professional teeth whitening kit from Smile Brilliant I was definitely all for it. It's the exact same whitening treatment that you would get at a dentist, except you can cut out the hassle of separate trips back and forth to the dentist, which means that you can do it all in the comfort of your own home and in your own time (and yes that means I totally did it sat on my bed watching Netflix, score!). It will also cost you a fraction of the price that you would pay your dentist for doing the exact same thing! They arranged to send me a kit out and even though they are based in the U.S, it arrived within a week, and all packaged in a professional, sleek black box.
Making the Impressions:
To start off you have to make the teeth impressions so that your custom fitted trays can be made to the perfect fit for you. You are given white Catalyst Paste and blue Base Paste that you mix together to form a putty, which should take no longer than 60 seconds. When it has turned a solid blue colour, you fit it onto the teeth molds, which are provided, and pop it into your mouth for 2 minutes. Once you have removed the impressions, you leave them in the molds to dry for 30 minutes, rinse them under cool water and simply ship them back in the padded envelope which is provided and already addressed for you.
You get given instructions on how to do this so it's really easy! The good thing is that you're given three sets of both the Catalyst and Base Pastes so that you have an extra one just in case you mess up. It's really simple to do so you probably won't need to use them (I didn't), but it's nice to know you have some spare just in case you do!
When they receive your impressions, they hand craft your very own set of custom fitted trays and ship them back to you in a cute little black container. Once they arrive you can actually start the whitening process!
To whiten your teeth you must make sure that your teeth are clean and as dry as you can get them. Take the Teeth Whitening Gel (green syringe) and apply a small line along the trays and pop them in for anything between 15 minutes to 3 hours, obviously the longer you leave it the quicker you will see results, I left mine in from around 2-3 hours. You can repeat the whitening process every day if you want to, but I did it only twice each week as I felt I needed a small break in between, as my teeth are more on the sensitive side.
If your teeth are also a little sensitive like mine, don't fear as Desensitizing gel is also available (purple syringe)! You apply this to your trays the same way you would the whitening gel but leave it in for 5-15 minutes. I will say though that I was a little bit confused as to whether I was supposed to use it prior to whitening my teeth or afterwards, as I'd seen people using it both ways in tutorials I had watched. I did experience a little sensitivity, but it was nothing that didn't go away within a day and the sensitivity was much less when I had used the desensitizing gel afterwards instead of beforehand.
I was given three syringes of Teeth Whitening Gel and three syringes of Desensitizing Gel and each syringe should last between 3-5 uses each time. So that's about 15 separate times you can whiten your teeth, which means you get loads of product for the price so it's well worth the money. I'm sure I'll have lots left over that I can keep should I feel they need going over again in the future.
Results so far:
And this is the results so far! I've whitened them about five times and I'm so impressed with the results already. I was shocked at how much of a difference it made just after the first use, which made me regret not taking a good before picture to show you as there is such a difference in colour (I don't often smile with my teeth in photos). I'm really pleased with them though and they're well on their way to becoming pearly white!
I would highly recommend Smile Brilliant if you are interested in whitening your teeth as they make the whole process so easy for you and they are really quick to answer any questions you may have. What do you think?
