Stacked Fishtail Braid | How To

So considering my hair is about the only thing I get complimented on, I've surprisingly never written a hairstyle post! Seeing as I've just discovered how to do this beautiful twist on the classic fishtail braid, I thought I'd share it on my blog as it turns out that not only is it super simple to do, but it's also perfect for Spring/Summer! I was inspired to do this braid by the gorgeous Amber Fillerup who has a video on it!

When doing any kind of braid I find that it looks best with curly, tousled hair, as it gives the braid much more texture which makes it look thicker. I've found that with straight hair, the top of it tends to lie pretty flat to my head from the weight of the plait, so if you curl it beforehand it helps to give more volume to the root as well. I used my beloved Babyliss Waving Wand for this, which is my absolute favourite wand! As with most braids, this one works best with hair that isn't freshly washed as it doesn't have as much slip to it, so it's great for days those in-between days.

Next, pull all of your hair around to one side of your head where you'd like the braid to fall. Section off a small part of hair from the underneath and keep it out of the way from the rest, I clipped mine to my t-shirt! This is going to be a small braid later on.

Take the main section of your hair and do a normal fishtail braid. If you're unsure about how to do it, you just split your hair into two parts and keep adding sections from each side into the middle, but there are loads of really helpful tutorials on youtube! (I might do a more detailed post about how to do a fishtail braid if you'd like me to?)

Fishtail braid done! I like to pull mine out a bit to make it look thicker and a little less neat. Now to take the small section and plait it into a normal three strand braid.

Once you've finished it, all you have to do now is to tie it together in the same elastic band as the fishtail braid, and then pin in to the centre! I used three hair pins to attach it; one at the top of the plait, one in the middle and one at the bottom, but I think they're pretty undetectable and I find it stays really secure all day so don't worry about it coming loose.

And lastly just the finishing touches! I pulled a few bits of hair out around my face and I didn't mention this earlier but I twisted my 'fringe' (not really a fringe anymore now as it's past my chin but ssh) and pinned it to the side!

Tah dah!

I've been loving this braid recently and think it looks a lot more intricate than it actually is! I'm quite pleased with how this post turned out, you know when something turns out exactly how you've envisioned it in your head haha..yeah. Let me know if you think I should do some more posts like this?!

Would you wear this braid? Let me know if you try it!

xoxo

  16. This looks amazing. I wish I found your blog before cutting my hair. I was bored of all the same styles: simple braids and dreadful ponytails. Will definitely try it out when my hair grow out.
