Mac Prep + Prime Highlighter in Light Boost

I've been meaning to write about Mac's Prep + Prime Highlighter for a while now, but I kept giving it little mentions in other blog posts so I thought I'd give it a rest for a bit or you might get sick of hearing about it haha. I've repurchased a fair few tubes of this little gem so it's definitely deserved its own blog post.

The shade I have here is called 'Light Boost' which is a pale, yellow based colour. I obviously use it to highlight certain areas of my face and I've found it works particularly well to brighten up my undereye area! First of all I use a more peach toned concealer to mask dark circles, like Maybelline's Eraser Eye, and then I'll add Light Boost over the top for a much brighter, more dimensional look. I simply apply it underneath my eyes in a v-shape and blend it in by gently patting it with my ring finger, and it diminishes any signs that you spent the majority of the night before hooked on Netflix (hey, it's not my fault the next episode plays automatically). It's basically beauty sleep in a tube.

Not only is this great for undereyes, but it works really well if you want to go all out contouring and highlighting the rest of the face. If I'm feeling extra fancy I'll pop this down the bridge of my nose, the centre of my chin, underneath my cheek contour, my brow bone and in between my brows blending out onto the middle of the forehead. There are loads of handy diagrams about where to contour and highlight all over Pinterest! As it's yellow based it's great for counteracting redness too, so I like to apply a little bit around the corners of my nose as well.

This little product is an absolute saviour and I wouldn't be without it!
Have you tried Mac Prep + Prime? Which highlighting products would you recommend?

xoxo

  1. I've been wanting to try this for a while now. I was thinking of going for the Radiant Light (I think that's what it is called, I could be totally wrong) which is the pink toned one. I'll definitely have to check out that one or the one you have!

    1. You should it's so worth it! Ooh I've not tried that one! I've also got Bright Forecast which is more peach toned and is really good at cancelling out dark circles too, but I can only use it when I have a tan as it's a little bit too dark for me! xo

    1. It's definitely a game changer in terms of upping your contour/highlight routine! Aw thank you so much! I do feel like it's important to put parts of my personality into what I write because it would probably be a bit of a boring read if not, so hopefully that comes across! xo

    2. That's good because I don't really have routine at the minute! You're welcome. It does definitely come across and that's what makes your writing even more appealing because the parts in brackets always make me laugh!xoxo

  3. I've been wanting to try this for awhile, but wasn't sure how the yellow would look on my super pink-toned skin. I never thought of it being able to counteract redness though, so I think a trip to a MAC counter may be in order now!

  9. I have yet to try this product! Thanks so much for the awesome review, I will definitely have to try it out. I have been using a Sephora highlighting pen as of late, but it doesn't blend the best and sometimes cakes up throughout the day. Hopefully this will be a better version of that!
